French Revolution
Causes

The French Revolution broke out in 1789.it was brought about by:
(a)The discontent of the French people with the rule of Louis XVI's government was corrupt and inefficent.This corrupt and inefficent nature of his government gelped to bring about the French Revolution.

(b)Social inequality:There were three estates or classes in 18th century France.The clergy and the nobility formed the first two esates.They has many special rights,but paid very little taxes.The peasants and the middle class belonged to the Third Estate.They has no rights.Yet they has to pay heavy taxes and to workfor the first two eates.This class inequality led to French Revolution.

(c)Economic causes:In the late 1780s,France was faced with a serious economic problem.This problem was mainly caused by the unfair taxation system.The Church and the nobles owed a lot of land,but they paid few taxes.Most of the Third Estate people did not own land,but they paid most of the taxes.
Louis XVI tried to so0lve the Church and the nobles to pay more taxes Both of them refused.This failure to solve the economic problem increased the people's discontent.This rising of discontent with the King helped to bring the revolution.

(d)The Enlightenment:Many French people,especially the educated onces,read the ritings of Enlightenment thinkers.They learned about such revolutionary ideas as equality and the right to revolt.These ideas helped to bring about the French Revolution.

(e)The American Revolution:Many French soldiers fought in the American War of Independence.After the war,they returned to France with the ideas soon spread among the middle class.This led to the French Revolution.
